DMC Celebrates 50 Glorious Years of Academic Excellence and Holistic Development
Mapusa: Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Mapusa, has emerged as a leading multidisciplinary institution in Goa, aligning its educational philosophy with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. With a sprawling campus and state-of-the-art infrastructure, the college has fostered an inclusive and progressive academic environment for over five decades.
Accredited with an ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, the institution has successfully transitioned from a traditional government-aided college offering B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc. courses to a thriving hub of self-financed, multidisciplinary learning. The college now offers BBA, BCA, M.Com, and M.Sc. courses in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Environmental Science. It also houses Ph.D. centres in Commerce and Chemistry.
Over the past 20 years, student strength has doubled from 900 to nearly 1800, reflecting the growing trust and recognition the college enjoys. Guided by its vision of “Education for Social Transformation and Nation Building,” the college management has consistently invested in infrastructure, research, innovation, and community outreach.
The college has undergone four NAAC accreditation cycles in 20 years, witnessing significant progress in collaborations, research, and holistic student development. Partnerships with industry, panchayat bodies, and research institutions have enriched academic outcomes and career readiness. Universities from outside Goa have also expressed interest in collaborative programs due to the college’s robust infrastructure and academic credentials.
With 40% of its faculty holding Ph.D.s, the college provides a rich academic experience. It also offers career guidance for competitive exams like CA, CS, NET, and GU-ART, as well as industry-specific sessions in banking, insurance, and pharmaceuticals. The college is also actively engaging students in cutting-edge areas such as robotics.
Since NEP’s implementation, the college has achieved national and international recognition in academics and sports. It secured Rs. 90 lakh in research funding and facilitated internships for 400 students. Recent academic achievements include three students clearing the CA exam, one student completing Inter-CA, another clearing CS Executive, and a student qualifying IIT-JAM Geology 2025.
Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative, the college adopted five villages—Hasapur, Chandel, Casarvernem, Alorna, and Assagao—engaging in financial inclusion, environmental sustainability, education, and healthcare projects. As a community outreach activity, students and faculty collaborated with self-help groups to prepare and distribute 2.5 tonnes of natural Holi colors across Goa.
The college’s campaign against paper cups and single-use plastics has garnered widespread appreciation, including recognition from the Chief Minister of Goa. The Vanarmare tribal community in Pernem has also benefited from health camps, solar lamp distribution, and educational support over the past four years.
In academics and research, the college hosted a three-day International Conference on South-East Asian Cinema and a National Conference on AI Tools for Libraries. It also collaborated with the Geological Society of Goa and other scientific bodies for the academic event “Geosphere – Where Geologists Meet,” attended by 140 students.
