Goa Delegation Led by Secretary Industries Visits EDII Ahmedabad

Panaji : A high-level delegation from the Government of Goa, led by Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary for Industries, Trade and Commerce, and Asvin Chandru, IAS, Director of Industries, along with officials from the Education Department, EDC Ltd., Skill Development, and Information & Publicity Department, visited the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad. The purpose of the visit was to study and deliberate on strategies to promote entrepreneurship in Goa.

This visit is a significant step in the ongoing initiative of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, to establish an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Goa aimed at fostering entrepreneurship education and training among the youth and students of the state. The Ahmedabad-based EDII, recognized as one of the premier institutions in the country for entrepreneurship development, has been entrusted with the responsibility to support Goa in this endeavor.

The EDII-Goa Centre was inaugurated on March 12, 2024, and under the leadership of Dr. Sawant, has made remarkable progress in just one year. The Centre has played a pivotal role in nurturing new enterprises in emerging sectors, supporting existing MSMEs, advancing entrepreneurship education, and contributing to rural development—thereby promoting inclusive entrepreneurial growth.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in extensive discussions on harnessing the transformative power of entrepreneurship through cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies to build a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Goa. Emphasis was laid on the role of youth in driving entrepreneurship, with proposals to establish micro-incubators on college and university campuses. These incubators would serve as platforms to nurture student ideas and provide training and counseling in entrepreneurship.

Key discussion themes included startups, innovation, technological advancements, MSME development, women entrepreneurship, and rural enterprise promotion. The deliberations reaffirmed the joint commitment of the Government of Goa and EDII to leverage the state’s natural and human resources to fuel sustainable economic development through entrepreneurship.

The state government is expected to roll out several new initiatives to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem and foster a culture of innovation and enterprise across Goa.
