Candolim PHC Sets New Benchmark: Achieves 96.56% Score in NQAS Certification

Candolim : In a significant achievement for healthcare in North Goa, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Candolim has been certified as conforming to the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) with an impressive score of 96.56% — the highest among bedded PHCs in the district.

This certification follows the recent National Kayakalp Award 2024-25 and the NQAS certification of AAM-SHC Arpora-Nagoa, reinforcing Candolim’s reputation for excellence in public healthcare delivery.

The assessment was conducted on 3rd and 4th April 2025 by officials from the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), New Delhi. The PHC is led by Health Officer Dr. Roshan Nazareth, with key support from Nodal Officer of the Quality Team Dr. Vanita Shetye, six departmental heads, and their dedicated teams. Every member of the PHC staff played a role in achieving this milestone.

The team was mentored and guided by Dr. Ujwala Prabhudessai (State Nodal Officer, Quality), Dr. Siddhi Ghatwal (Quality Consultant), and Dr. Nadine Mesquita (North Goa District Quality Consultant), under the leadership of Director of Health Services, Dr. Rupa Naik.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Roshan Nazareth said, “A big thank you to MLA of Calangute Constituency Shri Michael Lobo, Sarpanch of VP Candolim Shri Blaize Fernandes, and the entire Village Panchayat for their unwavering support. Despite limited modern infrastructure, we achieved this score due to everyone’s contribution.”

He added, “We are also deeply thankful to the people of Candolim for their prayers and valuable inputs throughout this process.”

This recognition is a testament to PHC Candolim’s dedication to quality healthcare and continuous improvement, setting a new standard for other PHCs in the region.
