ATAL SETHU: A NEW PICNIC SPOT FOR TOURISTS IN PORVORIM

Porvorim : Tourists traveling through Porvorim have discovered a unique picnic spot under the shade of the Atal Sethu bridge. The area, covered with lush green grass and adorned with flowering plants, offers a picturesque view of passing vehicles, making it an inviting and convenient halt. Situated right in front of the Hero Honda motorcycle showroom and close to the Maruti Sai Service Circle, it provides ample space for parking and easy access for travelers heading north.

On any given day, visitors can be seen relaxing with food packets, water bottles, soft drinks, and carpets spread out for resting or napping. Besides tourists, drivers of heavy vehicles also frequently use the spot to rest during the afternoon or overnight before resuming their journey.

Goa’s enduring status as a premier tourist destination has transformed many open spaces into favored relaxation spots. Locals and tourists alike appreciate areas with shade, greenery, and open spaces where children can play and families can unwind, especially during mornings and evenings.

Goans, known for their warm hospitality towards people of all castes, creeds, and religions, continue to embody the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava,” strengthening Goa’s reputation as a welcoming destination for visitors from around the world.

Interestingly, similar practices are observed internationally. During a visit to Mecca and Medina, large shaded areas under bridges are designated for visitors, complete with separate spaces for women and children, and strict enforcement of safety and cleanliness regulations.

In Goa, efforts are underway to maintain cleanliness and public order at such spots. Authorities have enforced rules prohibiting littering, mandating the use of dustbins, and banning smoking in public areas. Recently, the Chief Minister of Goa reminded tourists not to carry gas cylinders and cook in public spaces, a common sight during peak seasons like New Year’s and Christmas.

As Goa continues to evolve as a global tourism hub, the transformation of places like Atal Sethu into serene resting points highlights the need for responsible tourism practices and shared community spaces.
