RGP Launches Relentless Protest Outside TCP Office, Demands Action Against Illegal Bambolim Projects

Panaji : In a bold and uncompromising move, Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar, joined by party president Manoj Parab, staged an indefinite protest outside the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department headquarters, demanding an immediate crackdown on illegal mega-construction activities in Bambolim.

Borkar, known for his vocal stand on Goa’s environmental issues, announced that he would camp outside the TCP office day and night until concrete action is taken. He sharply criticized the government’s “wilful neglect” in allowing illegalities to flourish, accusing authorities of siding with corporate interests at the cost of Goa’s fragile coastline.

At the centre of RGP’s demands is the demolition of the illegal concrete retaining wall built by the Grand Hyatt on Bambolim beach — a structure Borkar termed an “assault on Goa’s natural heritage.” The MLA also called for an immediate halt to the illegal mega project by Worldwide Resorts, which he alleged was being pushed forward with blatant violations of planning regulations and without due environmental clearances.

“The TCP department has become a rubber stamp for powerful builders and resort lobbies,” Borkar charged while addressing a gathering of supporters and the media. “We will not allow Goa to be sold piece by piece to outside interests. If the TCP fails to act, the people of Goa will respond with a larger, state-wide agitation.”

Adding to their list of demands, the RGP leaders insisted that all permissions illegally granted to these controversial projects must be immediately cancelled and strict action initiated against erring officials.

As the protest gathered momentum, RGP supporters from across Goa expressed their willingness to join the agitation in larger numbers in the coming days, warning the government of a massive public uprising if urgent corrective steps are not taken.

This development has once again brought into sharp focus the growing anger among Goans against unchecked development and alleged government complicity in the destruction of the state’s natural environment.
