Goa Congress Mobilizes Citizens for Historic ‘Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan’ Protest at Azad Maidan
Panaji : In a powerful show of unity and defiance, the Goa Congress has launched a state-wide mobilization for the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan, urging Goans to rise against what it terms as the BJP government’s “betrayal of Goa’s identity and future.” The protest is set to take place today at 4:30 PM at Azad Maidan, Panaji.
Addressing the media, Goa Congress President Amit Patkar called upon citizens from every part of the state to join the movement, declaring, “Goa Deserves Better. Goa Deserves Justice. Goa Deserves a Future.”
The Congress party’s strong statement accuses the BJP government of systematically undermining Goa’s dignity, resources, and governance. In a sharply-worded attack, the Congress highlighted multiple failures under the current administration, warning that Goa is at a critical crossroads.
The key issues to be raised during the protest include:
Drug Menace: The party condemned the unchecked spread of the drug culture, claiming it has transformed Goa’s global image from a serene tourist paradise into a hub for international drug cartels, endangering the future of Goan youth.
Unemployment Crisis: With 12,000 young Goans entering the job market annually, the Congress alleged that government apathy and preference for outsiders in key industries are creating a “generation of despair” among local youth.
Injustice and Discrimination: The opposition party accused the government of failing to address rising atrocities against women, Dalits, and tribal communities, claiming that justice has become elusive for the vulnerable.
Corruption and Corporate Cronyism: Citing the selling of Goan land to big corporations and the casino industry’s Rs. 350 crore dues to the state, the Congress charged the government with prioritizing corporate interests over people’s welfare.
Broken Promises of Governance: From inadequate infrastructure to rising taxes, the Congress lambasted the government’s inability to fulfill its promises, calling it a “moral failure.”
“This is not just a protest against a government; it is a protest for Goa’s soul,” said Amit Patkar, emphasizing that the event marks the beginning of a people’s movement aimed at restoring Goa’s lost pride and protecting its future.
The Congress has urged all Goans to unite at Azad Maidan, vowing that today’s gathering will send a clear message that the people of Goa will no longer tolerate corruption, injustice, and the erosion of their cultural heritage.
The protest is expected to witness participation from civil society groups, youth organizations, and concerned citizens from across the state.
