EMPTY MILK PACKET AND CLOTH WASTE COLLECTION DRIVE HELD AT SANQUELIM

Panaji : The NSS Unit of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, in collaboration with the Mineral Foundation of Goa, successfully conducted an Empty Milk Packet Waste Collection Drive on the college premises. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of waste management and environmental protection through the recycling of milk packets.

As part of the drive, students and faculty actively participated, resulting in the collection of 78 kilograms of empty milk packets. These packets will be sent to the Pissurlem Recycling Plant, where they will be converted into plastic pellets and repurposed into usable plastic materials, thereby preventing the waste from polluting marine ecosystems.

The activity was coordinated by Shri Stephen Fernandes, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies and NSS Programme Officer.

In a related initiative, the NSS Unit also joined hands with Sampurn Earth Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and the Mineral Foundation of Goa for a Cloth-Waste Collection Drive conducted recently on the same campus. This effort yielded 151 kilograms of cloth waste.

The collected cloth items are being sorted by local self-help groups, thus generating employment opportunities. Depending on their quality, the clothes will be directed towards upcycling, recycling, reuse, or downcycling.

Both drives underline the college’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement through proactive waste management.
