Nationwide Mock Drill on May 7; To Be Conducted in Panaji, Vasco, and Dabolim in Goa
Panaji: Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, security agencies across the country have been put on high alert. In response, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all states to conduct a Civil Defence Mock Drill on May 7.
In Goa, this mock drill will be conducted in Panaji (North Goa) and Vasco and Dabolim Harbour (South Goa). Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has appealed to citizens to follow all guidelines and instructions issued during the drill.
This mock drill aims to check the readiness and coordination of emergency services and citizens in times of crisis or attack. Citizens are urged not to panic and to strictly follow instructions from local authorities.
Mock Drill to Take Place in 244 Locations Nationwide
The Home Ministry has identified 244 Civil Defence Districts for the mock drill across India. These districts are classified into three categories based on their vulnerability:
Category 1: Highly sensitive
Category 2: Moderately sensitive
Category 3: Less sensitive
What Will Happen During the Mock Drill?
Air raid sirens will be sounded to alert citizens
People may be guided to bunkers or safe houses
Roads will have tight security with police and Indian Army personnel deployed
A blackout (power shutdown) may be simulated
Citizens will be trained on how to protect themselves during attacks
Demonstrations will show how key sites and factories can be secured or hidden
What Should Citizens Do During the Drill?
Do not panic
Follow all instructions issued by authorities
Cooperate with police, home guards, civil defence wardens, and government volunteers
Stay alert and support the administration.
