Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal Reviews Urban Development and Power Sector Progress in Goa
Porvorim : Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, conducted a comprehensive review of the Department of Urban Development and the Department of Electricity at Mantralaya, Porvorim, today. Senior officials from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Power participated in the high-level meeting.
During the review, the Union Minister assessed the progress of key Union Government-sponsored schemes being implemented by the State Government, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), Smart City Mission, and the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana. He underscored the need for saturation-level outreach to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are covered and the schemes are effectively implemented on the ground.
Shri Manohar Lal Khattar also reviewed the performance of the Electricity Department under various centrally supported power schemes. He commended the department’s efforts in maintaining minimal transmission losses and stressed the importance of timely installation of smart meters to enhance efficiency and transparency in power usage.
Looking ahead, the Union Minister encouraged the State Government to move towards self-reliance in power generation by leveraging solar and other renewable energy sources. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting Goa in adopting clean and sustainable energy solutions.
Earlier in the day, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended a warm welcome to Shri Manohar Lal Khattar on his visit to the State. The review meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik; Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS; Goa Power Minister Shri Sudin Dhavalikar; Urban Development Minister Shri Vishwajit P Rane; and other senior officials.
