Excise Seizes Unauthorized Premium Foreign Liquor Worth ₹2.5 Crores

Panaji | In a major crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, the Department of Excise has seized a significant consignment of premium foreign liquor that was being brought into Goa without valid permits, in violation of the Goa Excise Duty Act and Rules, 1964.

The operation was carried out after a vehicle bearing registration number HR-58-D-0752 was intercepted while attempting to enter the state. Upon inspection, excise officials discovered that the container vehicle was carrying a large cache of high-end foreign liquor brands, concealed and undocumented.

The estimated market value of the seized liquor exceeds ₹2.5 crores.

The vehicle has been impounded, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the offenders under the relevant provisions of the Goa Excise Duty Act. Investigations are currently underway to trace the source and destination of the illicit consignment.

The Excise Department has reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement of liquor laws and has warned that stringent action will be taken against any attempt to smuggle alcohol into the state without proper authorization.
