Minister Mauvin Godinho Leads Inspection at New Vaddem to Address Sewage Overflow and Landslide Threat
Vasco | Minister Mauvin Godinho conducted a joint site inspection today at the Last Bus Stop in New Vaddem, Vasco, to address the pressing issues of sewage overflow and the imminent threat of a landslide that endangers the lives and property of local residents.
The visit was part of a comprehensive review of pre-monsoon preparedness and ongoing infrastructure works across the constituency. Minister Godinho emphasized the urgent need for immediate intervention under Disaster Management provisions, highlighting the risks posed by the unstable slope and unsanitary sewage conditions.
Key concerns identified during the inspection included:
Slope instability, which requires urgent rock bolting measures to prevent a potential landslide.
Illegal encroachments obstructing proposed sites for sewage pumping stations.
Continued open disposal of sewage, raising serious health and environmental risks ahead of the monsoon.
Minister Godinho stressed that these issues must be addressed on priority to ensure the implementation of proper sewage infrastructure and to eliminate hazardous conditions for residents.
“We are fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people. Timely and coordinated action is essential to mitigate these dangers before the onset of the monsoon,” the Minister said.
