Hero Emerges in Porvorim: Local Resident Repairs Dangerous Trench After Authorities Fail to Act
Porvorim : In a commendable act of civic responsibility, a local resident, vasant Lamani, has been hailed as a community hero after single-handedly addressing a hazardous road condition that had been ignored by authorities for months.
The issue centered around a deep trench dug opposite Jesuits House in Porvorim for underground electric and utility cable work. Despite numerous complaints by residents, the trench was left unfinished. Heavy rains further worsened the situation, washing away the temporary fillings and turning the trench into a serious safety risk for motorists and pedestrians.
Matters escalated recently when two individuals riding a two-wheeler lost control and fell into the knee-deep trench, sustaining injuries. Bystanders quickly helped the injured and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
Moved by the incident and fed up with administrative inaction, Lamani took matters into his own hands. Using a live tree shoot to warn and redirect traffic, he enlisted the help of laborers to fill the trench with mud and rubble, restoring the road’s usability and preventing further accidents.
Local residents have lauded Lamani’s selfless gesture, with many stating, “In an era where many shy away from responsibility, Lamani has shown what it truly means to care for the community. He didn’t seek publicity — he simply acted.”
This incident has sparked fresh calls for greater accountability and quicker response from civic authorities, while also underlining the crucial role responsible citizens can play in times of need.
