Mapusa : In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in the North Eastern Region, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), with the assistance of the Assam Rifles, has seized a significant quantity of heroin and methamphetamine worth approximately ₹23.5 crore in two separate operations.

On 21 May 2025, acting on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI, with support from the 19 BN Assam Rifles, intercepted a truck on NH-37 near Noney, Manipur. A thorough examination of the vehicle led to the recovery of 569 grams of heroin and 1,039 grams of methamphetamine tablets, which were cleverly concealed in a specially fabricated cavity within the truck’s chassis.

In a follow-up operation the very next day, on 22 May 2025, the DRI, assisted by the Assam Rifles FIU Unit Silchar, intercepted another truck at Aloicherra in Assam’s Hailakandi District. This vehicle was found to be carrying 2,640.53 grams of heroin, hidden in a customized cavity built into the truck’s bedload floor.

The seized drugs have an estimated value of ₹23.5 crore in the international grey market. All the contraband has been confiscated under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and four individuals involved in the smuggling operations have been arrested.

These operations are part of DRI’s ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region. Since January 2025, the agency has seized ganja, heroin, and methamphetamine worth over ₹173 crore in the North East and apprehended 26 traffickers.

The DRI continues to intensify its vigilance and enforcement actions to safeguard India’s borders against the menace of drug trafficking.
