Textile Advisory Group Meeting; Sets Vision for $350 Billion Industry by 2030

Delhi : In a significant move to accelerate growth in the Indian textile sector, Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, chaired a high-level Textile Advisory Group (TAG) meeting on Cotton and Man-Made Fibres (MMF) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Textiles, and Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, along with senior officials, industry leaders, and research bodies.

Focus on Cotton Productivity and Vision 2030

Shri Giriraj Singh underscored the importance of the Mission for Cotton Productivity, which aims to enhance yield and quality to align with the 5F vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister — Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign. He emphasized that this mission will be pivotal in helping India achieve its ambitious target of $350 billion in textiles output by 2030.

The Minister laid out the core pillars for driving growth in the sector — Integration, Innovation, Scale, and Speed — and stressed the need for data-driven policy interventions. He called for a comprehensive gap analysis to bridge inefficiencies across the demand-supply spectrum of the textile value chain.

Promoting Sustainability and Technology Adoption

Addressing the gathering, Minister of State Shri Pabitra Margherita urged stakeholders to work cohesively to realize Vision 2030. He advocated for sustainable farming practices and the adoption of advanced processing technologies to improve returns to cotton farmers and ensure a consistent supply of quality raw material to the industry.

Secretary Neelam Shami Rao reiterated the need for close collaboration across all segments of the textile ecosystem. She emphasized the importance of creating a unified roadmap for value chain integration and fast-tracking technology adoption to stay competitive in global markets.

Industry Applauds Government Initiatives

Industry leaders and stakeholders welcomed the Minister’s roadmap and acknowledged the government’s continued focus on technology, sustainability, and farmer-industry linkages. They also discussed the potential of alternative fibres like milkweed, which holds promise due to its superior thermal and physical properties, both as a source of income for farmers and as an industrial fibre.

The meeting witnessed active participation from senior officials of the Ministries of Textiles, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Commerce & Industry, Office of the Textile Commissioner, Textile Committees, research institutes, and major industry associations, ensuring a holistic representation of the entire textile value chain.

The TAG meeting reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building a robust, resilient, and forward-looking textile industry rooted in sustainability and innovation.
