Cabinet Approves ₹3,653 Crore 4-Lane Badvel-Nellore Highway Project in Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the development of the 4-lane Badvel-Nellore Highway in Andhra Pradesh. The project, to be executed on a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis, will cover a total length of 108.134 km at an estimated capital cost of ₹3,653.10 crore.

The proposed corridor will start from Gopavaram village on NH-67 in YSR Kadapa District and terminate at the Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) in SPSR Nellore District. The new alignment will reduce the travel distance between Badvel and Nellore from 142 km to 108.13 km, cutting travel time by approximately one hour. This is expected to result in reduced fuel consumption, lower vehicle operating costs (VOC), and a smaller carbon footprint.

The corridor is strategically significant, as it will enhance connectivity to major industrial nodes in Andhra Pradesh, including:

Kopparthy Node on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC),

Orvakal Node on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and

Krishnapatnam Node on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).

The highway will also offer crucial connectivity to Krishnapatnam Port, a priority node under CBIC, further boosting logistics efficiency and trade infrastructure.

Besides its logistical benefits, the project is expected to create 20 lakh man-days of direct employment and 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment, along with fostering economic activity and job opportunities in the surrounding regions.

An Index Map and detailed project alignment have been provided as part of the official release (Annexure-I).
