Indian Navy Launches Sixth 25T Tug ‘Sabal’ in Kolkata
Kolkata : The Indian Navy marked a significant milestone with the launch of the sixth 25-tonne Bollard Pull (BP) Tug ‘Sabal’ at M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), Kolkata. The ceremony took place in the presence of Commodore S Sreekumar, WPS, Kolkata, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
This launch is part of a contract signed on 12 November 2021 for the construction of six indigenous 25T BP Tugs. Designed and built in line with Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) naval standards, the tugs play a crucial role in assisting naval ships and submarines during berthing, un-berthing, and manoeuvring within confined waters. Additionally, these vessels are equipped for afloat firefighting and limited search and rescue operations.
The project showcases the Indian Navy’s commitment to the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, underlining the nation’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
