NSO Hosts All-India Workshop for Domestic Tourism & Travel Surveys
Hyderabad : The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, organized the All-India Workshop of Trainers (AIWOT) for the upcoming Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES) and National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad on May 28–29, 2025.
These surveys, to be launched in July 2025 as part of the NSS 80th Round, aim to gather critical data for tourism planning and infrastructure development. Director General (NSS) Ms. Geeta Singh Rathore inaugurated the workshop, highlighting the importance of timely and quality data for policy making and international indices.
Additional Director General Ms. Sunitha Bhaskar stressed the key role of field officials in ensuring the success of the surveys. The workshop saw participation from officials of the NSS, Field Operations Division, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Railways, and state-level statistical departments.
While the DTES will capture household spending on domestic overnight and same-day trips, the NHTS — a first in India — will provide insights into travel patterns vital for public transport and infrastructure decisions.
