Goa Declared Fully Literate State on 39th Statehood Day: CM Pramod Sawant

Panaji: On the occasion of the 39th Goa Statehood Day, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant proudly declared Goa as a “Fully Literate State” under the ULLAS Bharat Literacy Programme, marking a significant milestone in the state’s educational journey.

Addressing the people of Goa, CM Sawant said, “Our sustained and collective efforts to strengthen the education sector, through continuous advancements and the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, have yielded this proud achievement. Goa has now joined the league of fully literate states in India.”

He highlighted that this accomplishment is a testament to the state’s focus on inclusive and transformative education policies, community engagement, and robust grassroots-level literacy campaigns.

Commemorating Goa’s journey from its liberation from Portuguese rule in 1961 to attaining statehood in 1987, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the state’s enduring spirit. “Today, we honour Goa’s rich heritage and celebrate the spirit of Parshuram Bhoomi — a land known for its courage, culture, and progress,” he said.

The announcement comes at a time when the state is witnessing educational reforms and growing participation in skill-based and lifelong learning initiatives, in alignment with national goals for literacy and empowerment.

Various programs and cultural events were held across Goa to mark Statehood Day, reflecting on the state’s resilient journey and vibrant identity.
