TDB Backs India’s First Indigenous Stroke Device by S3V Vascular”
Delhi: In a major leap for India’s MedTech sector, the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has funded S3V Vascular Technologies Ltd., Mysuru, to develop India’s first indigenously manufactured mechanical thrombectomy device for stroke treatment.
The project involves setting up a cutting-edge integrated manufacturing plant at Medical Devices Park, Oragadam (Chennai), to produce life-saving devices for acute ischemic stroke patients. This includes microcatheters, aspiration catheters, stent retrievers, and guidewires—previously imported at high costs.
With this move, S3V becomes the first Indian company to build a complete suite of neuro-intervention tools. The company is also filing patents for advanced designs and aims to bring these devices under Ayushman Bharat to improve access and affordability.
TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak lauded the project as a step toward making India a global hub for affordable, high-end healthcare technologies. Managing Director Dr. N.G. Vijaya Gopal emphasized the initiative’s role in reducing import dependency and positioning India as a MedTech leader.
The company has initiated CE and USFDA approvals to reach global markets including Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the USA.
