MLA Joshua De Souza Conducts Pre-Monsoon Inspection of Water-Logging Hotspots in Mapusa
Mapusa : In a proactive effort to tackle flooding issues ahead of the monsoon season, Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza carried out a detailed inspection of key water-logging hotspots across the town. The inspection revealed significant accumulations of plastic waste, mud, and debris—primary contributors to water stagnation and urban flooding.
Accompanied by his team and concerned local residents, MLA De Souza visited several vulnerable locations to assess ground realities and identify immediate and long-term solutions. The team emphasized the urgent need for clearing choked drains and implementing sustainable drainage measures.
Speaking to the media during the inspection, MLA De Souza stated, “We observed critical issues that need swift attention, particularly the irresponsible disposal of plastic and solid waste into drains and nallahs. This not only causes blockages but also poses serious health and environmental risks.”
He urged the citizens of Mapusa to act responsibly and refrain from dumping garbage in public drainage systems. “Preventing flooding is a shared responsibility. Civic discipline is key to ensuring our city remains safe and resilient during the rains,” he added.
The inspection marks the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing Mapusa’s preparedness for the monsoon and improving urban sanitation through collaborative efforts between authorities and residents.
