CM Pramod Sawant Reviews Progress of PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in Goa
Panaji : Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level review meeting today at the Mantralaya to assess the implementation and progress of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) in Goa. This flagship initiative aims to promote clean, affordable, and sustainable solar energy for households, particularly targeting the poor and middle-class segments.
Ambitious Targets for Goa
Under the PM-SGMBY, Goa has been set the following goals to be achieved by 2027:
Installation of 21,200 rooftop solar systems
Generation of 65 MW of green energy
Ensuring widespread adoption among low- and middle-income families
Steady Progress on the Ground
As of now, Goa has recorded:
Over 4,700+ feasibility approvals
7.34 MW of solar energy already being generated through installed systems
Disbursal of subsidies amounting to ₹4.28 crore
Key Action Points Discussed
During the meeting, the CM and senior officials focused on accelerating implementation and overcoming logistical hurdles. Major discussion points included:
Fast-tracking onboarding of qualified contractors, with an assurance of 25-year maintenance commitments to ensure long-term reliability.
Promoting mass rooftop solar adoption in both new and existing constructions, including residential complexes, hotels, and government buildings.
Phasing out legacy schemes like the Goa Vinamulya Vidyut Yojana (GVVYJ) and merging them under PM-SGMBY to streamline policy efforts.
Mandating rooftop solar installations for specific sectors to boost participation and compliance.
Commitment to Net Zero Goals
Terming the PM-SGMBY as a “transformative initiative,” CM Sawant reiterated the state’s firm commitment towards achieving clean energy targets and contributing to India’s Net Zero carbon emissions goals.
“This scheme is not just about free electricity; it’s about empowering homes with clean energy, reducing dependence on conventional power, and shaping a sustainable future for Goa,” said CM Sawant.
