Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Launches C CARES Version 2.0 of CMPFO to Enhance Social Security for Coal Workers

New Delhi : Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, today launched C CARES Version 2.0, an upgraded digital platform of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO), developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). The launch event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, including Secretary Shri Vikram Dev Dutt and Commissioner, CMPFO.

CMPFO, established in 1948 under the Ministry of Coal, serves over 3.3 lakh Provident Fund subscribers and 6.3 lakh pensioners in the coal sector, providing vital social security through its PF and Pension schemes.

C CARES Version 2.0 marks a major milestone in digitizing the operations of CMPFO. The portal is designed to streamline Provident Fund and Pension disbursements by integrating coal workers, coal management, and CMPFO on a single unified digital platform. It aims to enhance transparency, ensure accountability, and provide seamless support from claim initiation to the final settlement directly into members’ bank accounts.

Highlighting the significance of the launch, Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy said,

“C CARES 2.0 is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’ It promotes transparency, accessibility, and convenience for the coal workforce. I urge the Ministry to keep it updated by actively considering inputs from the workers.”

Secretary Shri Vikram Dev Dutt emphasized that the initiative reflects the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of coal sector workers, while Additional Secretary Smt. Rupinder Brar lauded the rapid and efficient development of the portal by the project team.

The new module, developed in partnership with State Bank of India, enables Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of Provident Fund and Pension amounts. The financial system auto-updates PF and Pension ledgers based on data provided by coal companies. Initially, it has been rolled out in five regional offices:

Godavarikhani and Kothagudem (SCCL)

Asansol-I (ECL)

Bilaspur (SECL)

Nagpur (WCL)

The module will be implemented in the remaining regional offices from July 1, 2025.

The portal is also complemented by a mobile application accessible to all CMPF members. The app offers features such as:

Profile and employment details

Real-time claim tracking

Grievance redressal

PF balance view

Additionally, it includes a chatbot assistant to provide instant information to users.

To support data-driven decision-making, C CARES 2.0 features a prescriptive dashboard for coal companies and CMPFO. The dashboard can generate customized reports, analyze trends in PF and pension settlements, and offer actionable insights for improving service delivery.

With this forward-looking initiative, the Ministry of Coal has taken a crucial step toward enhancing the digital ecosystem for social security delivery and reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, transparency, and empowerment of coal sector workers across India.
