PM Modi to Lead Tree Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ on World Environment Day

New Delhi : In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lead a special tree plantation initiative on the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, 2025. The event is scheduled to take place at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi, at 10:15 AM.

As part of the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, the Prime Minister will plant a Banyan sapling, symbolizing a deep-rooted commitment to ecological conservation. This plantation drive is an integral part of the ‘Aravalli Green Wall Project’, a major inter-state environmental initiative aimed at reforesting the 700-kilometre-long Aravalli range.

The Aravalli Green Wall Project covers a 5 km buffer zone along the hill range and spans 29 districts across Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat. It focuses on afforestation, reforestation, and the restoration of local water bodies to enhance biodiversity, soil fertility, water availability, and climate resilience in the region. Additionally, the project is expected to generate employment and income opportunities for local communities.

In another major push for green infrastructure, Prime Minister Modi will also flag off 200 electric buses under the Delhi Government’s sustainable transport initiative. This move reinforces the government’s focus on clean and efficient urban mobility, further contributing to the nation’s climate action goals.

These initiatives reflect India’s strong and inclusive approach to addressing environmental challenges while empowering local communities and promoting a greener future.
