CM Pramod Sawant Reiterates Goa’s Green Commitment on World Environment Day 2025
Panaji On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant addressed a special gathering at Raj Bhavan, joined by MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Chief Secretary, and other dignitaries including Padma Shri awardees Dr. Prakash and Mandakini Amte. The event echoed the global UNEP theme: “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.”
In a strong push for environmental governance, the Chief Minister unveiled several key documents including:
Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) Annual Report
Khazan Land Management Plan
Mangrove Management Plan
National Workshop Report on Coastal Erosion Studies
To enhance transparency and digital access, the GCZMA (Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority) and DOECC (Department of Environment and Climate Change) portals were officially launched during the event.
Highlighting Goa’s proactive environmental stance, CM Sawant proudly shared that the state ranks third-lowest in plastic production and usage nationwide. He emphasized the government’s successful efforts in setting up modern Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and Water Treatment Plants (WTP), which are central to Goa’s vision of “Zero Waste”.
The revival of Khazan lands, mangrove conservation, the promotion of eco-friendly Ganesh idols, and robust Agro-Environmental Policies showcase the state’s comprehensive green agenda.
CM Sawant underlined that Goa’s environmental mission aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) Movement, advocating for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
“Let’s pledge today to say no to single-use plastic and embrace an eco-conscious lifestyle,” the Chief Minister urged, as Goa continues to lead by example in environmental stewardship.
