Union MoS Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar Visits WOOW Plant in Chicalim, Praises Goa’s Model for Solid Waste Management

Chicalim:- The Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communication, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, visited the state-of-the-art WOOW (Wealth Out of Waste) Plant at Chicalim, a flagship initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He was warmly received by Goa’s Minister for Transport, Industries, Panchayati Raj, Protocol, and Legislative Affairs, Shri Mauvin Godinho.

Dr. Chandrasekhar expressed his admiration for the scientifically managed solid waste processing facility, commending it as a replicable model for other states. He showed particular interest in implementing a similar system in his home state of Andhra Pradesh.

Shri Mauvin Godinho praised Mr. Gaurav Pokle and his dedicated team for their exemplary work in transforming the WOOW Plant into a benchmark for sustainable waste management. “This is not just a facility; it’s a demonstration of what visionary planning and committed execution can achieve,” said Godinho.

During the Minister’s visit, Shri Godinho also showcased several key developmental initiatives in the Dabolim constituency, including the newly developed Joggers Park, the upgraded Sub District Hospital, and the rejuvenated Vaddem Lake. These projects received high appreciation for their impact on public welfare and environmental sustainability.

Later, at an interaction held at the New Vaddem office, Dr. Chandrasekhar engaged with local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), attentively listening to their challenges — particularly in the area of product marketing. In a significant announcement, the Minister shared that his ministry is planning a major national-level exhibition in Goa, offering SHGs from across the country a platform to showcase their work. Shri Godinho assured full support for this initiative.

Dr. Chandrasekhar reiterated the Centre’s focus on grassroots development and women’s empowerment, and assured sustained support for sustainable rural growth in Goa and beyond.

“This visit reflects our shared vision for a cleaner, empowered, and self-reliant India, in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s mission of Swachh Bharat and inclusive development,” said Minister Godinho.
