PM Modi Hails 11 Years of Defence Reforms, Highlights Modernisation and Self-Reliance
New Delhi :- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday celebrated the transformative progress of India’s defence sector over the past 11 years, emphasizing its twin pillars—modernisation and self-reliance.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said,
> “The last 11 years have marked significant changes in our defence sector, with a clear focus on both modernisation and becoming self-reliant when it comes to defence production… It is gladdening to see how the people of India have come together with the resolve of making India stronger! #11YearsOfRakshaShakti.
The post is part of a broader campaign—‘11 Years of Raksha Shakti’—commemorating the transformation since 2014, when PM Modi assumed office.
Key Highlights:
Shift from Imports to Exports: India has transitioned from a heavily import-dependent defence sector to an emerging global arms exporter.
Defence Exports Boom: Defence exports have crossed ₹21,000 crore in recent years, now reaching over 100 countries.
Indigenous Strength: Key projects like the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, INS Vikrant (India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier), and the HAL Tejas fighter jet showcase India’s homegrown capabilities.
Make in India & Aatmanirbhar Bharat: Government initiatives have bolstered defence indigenisation and R&D, encouraging private and public sector collaboration.
Global Recognition: India’s defence innovations have enhanced its global strategic footprint and fortified national security.
The Ministry of Defence also echoed PM Modi’s message, stating,
> “India’s defence sector has transformed from import-dependent to a global exporter, powered by Aatmanirbhar Bharat & Make In India.”
With a clear push for strategic autonomy and innovation, the past decade marks a paradigm shift in India’s defence preparedness—focused not only on military strength but also on global competitiveness
