NORTH GOA CONGRESS SLAMS GOVERNMENT OVER HEALTH MINISTER’S STATEMENTS

Mapusa : The North Goa Congress has launched a scathing attack on the state government following recent remarks made by the Health Minister, which have triggered widespread anger among the medical community. Doctors across Goa have taken to the streets in protest, denouncing the minister’s comments and voicing their frustration over the government’s approach to healthcare.

Shri Vijay L. Bhike, General Secretary of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), strongly criticized the government, stating, “A government that fails to understand the concerns of its healthcare professionals is a failed government. Moreover, the treatment meted out to the media – criticizing and silencing them – reflects an increasingly authoritarian mindset.”

Bhike described the Health Minister’s remarks as deeply insensitive and said they reveal the government’s indifference to the pressing needs of Goa’s healthcare system.

Lourence Sequeira, Calangute Block President, echoed the sentiment, stating, “The medical fraternity deserves respect and support, not criticism and disrespect. The government has also failed to address rampant touting activity in Calangute, which is damaging our tourism industry. The situation is only worsened by the poor state of healthcare infrastructure. We demand an immediate apology from the government and concrete steps to rectify these issues.”

Adding to the criticism, Mitali Gadekar from Mapusa said, “The people of Goa deserve better healthcare. It’s time the government takes responsibility instead of shifting blame. Enough is enough.”

The Congress leaders have called on the government to not only apologize to the medical community but also take swift action to improve healthcare infrastructure and address long-standing issues plaguing the tourism sector.
