WATER WOES SPARK PROTEST: Anjuna Residents March to PWD Office Demanding Relief
Mapusa : Mounting frustration over persistent water shortages boiled over on the streets of Dattawadi, Anjuna, as hundreds of residents took part in a protest march to the Public Works Department (PWD) office, demanding urgent intervention.
Led by local leaders and joined by women, children, and the elderly, the demonstrators carried banners and placards calling for an end to the acute water crisis that has gripped their locality. Residents voiced their anguish over the daily struggle to access clean drinking water, a basic necessity that has become a luxury in many Anjuna households.
> “We’re forced to spend our hard-earned money on private water tankers. It’s unacceptable and unaffordable,” said one protester. “We demand the PWD take immediate and effective action.”
The protestors handed over a strongly-worded memorandum to PWD officials, highlighting the severity of the crisis and calling for a permanent solution. In response, PWD representatives assured the crowd that the matter would be escalated to higher authorities and a team would soon be dispatched to assess the ground situation.
The officials further stated that steps would be initiated to improve the water supply infrastructure in the area. However, residents remained firm in their stance, warning that failure to meet their demands would lead to intensified agitation in the coming days.
The protest underscores the urgent need for the government to address infrastructure gaps and ensure uninterrupted access to basic amenities like water. The people of Anjuna now await concrete results—and relief from their long-standing water woes.
