MLA Jit Arolkar Meets CM Pramod Sawant Over Concerns on App-Based Taxi Services

Panaji : Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar met with Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today to discuss the growing concerns of local taxi operators over the possible entry of app-based taxi services such as Ola and Uber in Goa.

Accompanied by a delegation of taxi operators from his constituency, MLA Arolkar highlighted the potential impact these services could have on the livelihood of traditional taxi operators, many of whom rely solely on tourism and local travel for income.

Following detailed discussions, Chief Minister Dr. Sawant gave a clear assurance that no app-based taxi services will be permitted to operate in Goa. The CM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the state’s traditional taxi sector.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, MLA Arolkar stated, “We are determined to protect the livelihoods of our taxi operators. The Chief Minister has given us a firm assurance that the government will not allow Ola, Uber, or similar services to enter Goa. Our local taxi sector is an integral part of the Goan economy and culture, and we will continue to support them.”

The meeting comes amid increasing debate over the modernization of Goa’s transport sector and the role of digital platforms. However, the state government appears firm on preserving the traditional taxi network and its operators.
