Black Box Recovered from Crashed Air India Dreamliner in Ahmedabad; DVR Also Retrieved by Gujarat ATS
Ahmedabad : In a significant breakthrough for investigators, the black box of the ill-fated Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad has been recovered from the wreckage. The discovery is expected to be instrumental in determining the cause of the deadly accident.
Technically referred to as the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), the black box contains a trove of vital flight information, including aircraft speed, altitude, engine performance, and cockpit communications. The device is designed to survive extreme conditions from high-impact crashes to intense heat and submersion ensuring the preservation of critical data even in catastrophic scenarios.
Despite being commonly called a “black box,” the recorder is usually painted bright orange to facilitate its quick identification at crash sites. Constructed using highly durable materials like steel and titanium, it comprises two key components:
Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), which logs hundreds of flight parameters, and
Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), which captures audio from the cockpit, including conversations between pilots and air traffic controllers.
In a parallel development, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has recovered a digital video recorder (DVR) from the wreckage. Officials believe the DVR could provide visual insights into the final moments of the flight, potentially corroborating data from the black box.
Authorities are now preparing to analyse both the flight recorders and the DVR in an effort to construct a precise timeline of events leading up to the crash. Aviation experts, forensic teams, and representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are involved in the probe.
The findings from these devices will be crucial in determining whether the crash was caused by technical malfunction, human error, or possible foul play.
Further updates are awaited as the analysis progresses.
