Israel Intensifies Air War on Iran as Diplomacy Collapses; Trump Urges Tehran to Accept Nuclear Deal
Tensions in the Middle East have reached a critical point as Israel continues its devastating air campaign against Iran, claiming control of Iranian airspace and eliminating key figures in Iran’s military and nuclear establishment. The conflict, now entering its fifth day, has derailed diplomatic efforts and drawn global concern.
The Israeli strikes, launched in a surprise offensive, have reportedly resulted in the deaths of nearly all top Iranian military commanders and prominent nuclear scientists. While 15,000 centrifuges were destroyed in targeted attacks, Iran’s heavily fortified Fordow nuclear facility remains largely intact.
Peace talks between the United States and Iran, scheduled to be hosted in Oman on June 15, were abruptly cancelled. Tehran cited ongoing Israeli aggression as the reason for pulling out, stating that it could not negotiate under fire.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, attending the G7 summit in Canada, reiterated his position that Iran should swiftly agree to strict limitations on its nuclear program. “As I’ve been saying, I think a deal will be signed, or something will happen, but a deal will be signed, and I think Iran is foolish not to sign,” Trump told reporters.
Despite mounting international pressure for restraint, Trump refused to endorse a joint G7 statement calling for de-escalation. The draft communiqué emphasizes that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon and affirms Israel’s right to self-defense.
With no ceasefire in sight and diplomatic channels collapsing, the crisis threatens to escalate further, potentially drawing in regional and global powers into a broader conflict.
