England to Open 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup Campaign Against Sri Lanka on June 12

London : Hosts England will kick off their 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on June 12, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday. The highly anticipated tournament will feature 12 teams for the first time in the event’s history.
Defending champions New Zealand will begin their title defence a day later on June 13, facing the West Indies in what promises to be a high-octane clash in Group 2.
The tournament will feature two groups:
Group 1: Australia (record six-time champions), South Africa (two-time runners-up), India (2020 finalists), Pakistan, and two teams from the Global Qualifier.
Group 2: New Zealand, England (2009 champions), Sri Lanka, West Indies (2016 champions), and two other Global Qualifier teams.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with the grand finale scheduled for July 5 at Lord’s.
A marquee group-stage clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be held at Edgbaston on June 14, adding to the tournament’s excitement.
Other iconic venues hosting matches include Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, Bristol County Ground, and Lord’s.
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt expressed her excitement:
“World Cups are always special, but this one already feels different ; it has the potential to be truly game-changing. Playing on home soil, for the biggest prize, against the best players in the world, it’s going to be unmissable. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
