BUILDING A SAFER GOA: STATE-LEVEL DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM LAUNCHED IN MAPUSA

Mapusa : In a significant move to strengthen Goa’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities, the Goa State Disaster Management Authority, in association with the Office of the Deputy Collector of Bardez Taluka and the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Mapusa, launched a special Village-Level Disaster Management and Fire Safety Awareness Program.

The event, held at the Municipality Hall in Mapusa, was conducted under the flagship #SwayampurnaGoa initiative, which aims to empower local communities with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively respond to emergencies and natural disasters.

The awareness drive saw active participation from local officials, disaster management experts, fire safety personnel, and members of the community. Discussions and training sessions focused on practical measures for disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, emergency response coordination, and fire safety protocols.

This initiative reflects the state’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient and safety-conscious society. By involving village communities directly in preparedness and response strategies, the program aims to reduce the risks and damages caused by disasters, while fostering a culture of readiness and collaboration.

The event emphasized the importance of joint efforts between government departments, local governing bodies, and citizens in safeguarding lives and property in times of crisis.
