Trump Retains Control of California National Guard Amid Legal Battle
A U.S. appeals court has allowed former President Donald Trump to retain control of California’s National Guard while Governor Gavin Newsom’s lawsuit challenging the move continues. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals extended a pause on a lower court ruling that found Trump’s June 7 deployment of 4,000 Guard troops to Los Angeles unlawful, citing a lack of coordination with the governor and insufficient grounds under federal law. The controversial deployment, alongside 700 Marines, came during protests over immigration raids. California argues the move violated state sovereignty and U.S. law, while the Trump administration insists the troops are protecting federal property, not enforcing civilian law.
