Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy Reviews Salem Steel Plant Operations, Charts Turnaround Strategy

Salem : Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, visited the Salem Steel Plant (SAIL unit) to review its operations and explore strategies for profitability and capacity enhancement. Emphasizing the plant’s role in achieving PM Modi’s vision of 300 MT steel production by 2030 and Net Zero by 2070, the Minister witnessed the complete steelmaking process from scrap to stainless steel products.
Highlighting the importance of specialty steel in sectors like defence, railways, and infrastructure, he called for full capacity utilisation, green energy adoption, and a focus on high-value steel products. A high-level review meeting addressed operational bottlenecks, and the Minister assured plant workers of support. The visit reaffirmed Salem’s vital role in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
