Manchester City Crush Al-Ain 6-0 to Advance in Club World Cup
Manchester City delivered a commanding 6-0 win over UAE side Al-Ain on Sunday, securing a place in the Club World Cup knockout stage from Group G alongside Juventus.
Ilkay Gundogan starred with a brace (9’, 73’), while Claudio Etcheverri scored a stunning free kick and Erling Haaland converted a penalty before half-time. Substitutes Oscar Bobb and Rayan Cherki added late goals to complete the rout.
City manager Pep Guardiola showcased squad depth by making 11 changes, with young and senior players alike stepping up. Despite showing more fight than in their earlier 5-0 defeat to Juventus, Al-Ain failed to threaten City’s dominance.
With this victory, City matched Juventus on goal difference. Both teams will clash in Orlando on Thursday to decide the Group G winner and a favorable path in the round of 16.
“It was a fully deserved win,” said Gundogan. “We had strong moments throughout and finished well.”
