Congress Slams BJP Government After Chodan Ferry Sinks, Demands Sacking of Captain of Ports
“Criminal Negligence by BJP Regime,” Says Congress, Demands Independent Judicial Probe
Chodan : A major political storm erupted today after a ferry sank at Chodan in what is being described as a grave case of negligence by the BJP-led Goa Government. The Congress Party launched a scathing attack, holding the state administration and the Captain of Ports responsible for the incident and demanding immediate action.
Calling the incident more than just an accident, Congress leaders termed it as “criminal negligence” and accused the Dr. Pramod Sawant-led government of ignoring repeated warnings about the deteriorating state of Goa’s inland water transport system.
“While crores are being splurged on event management, photo-ops, and PR gimmicks, the very infrastructure that Goans rely on for daily commutes is collapsing,” a Congress spokesperson said in a sharply worded statement.
The party raised several pressing questions:
Who cleared an unfit ferry for operation?
What safety checks or maintenance routines were followed?
Why did the Captain of Ports Department fail in preventing this disaster?
Congress also pointed out that while no casualties have been reported, it was purely a matter of luck. “Had any lives been lost, their blood would be on the hands of this careless government,” the party stated.
The Congress has now demanded:
Immediate sacking of the Captain of Ports
An independent judicial inquiry into the ferry sinking
A full audit and urgent repair of all operational ferries in Goa
Expressing solidarity with the people of Chodan, the party reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and justice. “Goa cannot afford more disasters under this incompetent regime. Congress will continue to fight until strict action is taken,” the statement concluded.
