India to Mark International Day Against Drug Abuse with Nationwide Awareness Campaign
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) will commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2025, with a central event at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. Union Minister of State B.L. Verma will be the Chief Guest.
As the nodal agency for drug demand reduction, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) continues its mission to combat substance abuse through the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) a national campaign focused on awareness, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
NMBA, active across all Indian districts, emphasizes youth outreach in schools, colleges, and communities, aiming to create a Jan Andolan (people’s movement). Over 15.78 crore people, including 5.26 crore youth and 3.31 crore women, have been sensitized. More than 4.31 lakh educational institutions have participated.
The campaign leverages digital tools, including a mobile app and website, and features a National Online Pledge with over 1.67 crore student participants. Collaborations with spiritual and social groups have extended NMBA’s impact further.
To mark the occasion, all States, Union Territories, and NGOs under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) are conducting awareness programs from June 1 to 26.
