Australia and West Indies Begin New Test Chapter with Major Changes

Change is the dominant theme as Australia and West Indies kick off their three-Test series in the Caribbean on Wednesday. With a fresh World Test Championship (WTC) cycle underway, both sides are ushering in a new era. Australia, still reeling from their WTC final loss to South Africa, have reshuffled their batting line-up. Teenager Sam Konstas will open with Usman Khawaja, while Josh Inglis steps into the middle order. Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped, and Steve Smith is sidelined with injury.

Captain Pat Cummins confirmed the team is planning for the future, with veteran players like Khawaja, Starc, Hazlewood, and Lyon nearing retirement. Cameron Green retains the number three spot despite a poor WTC final performance, with Cummins backing him as a long-term prospect.

For the West Indies, spin-bowling all-rounder Roston Chase leads the side for the first time, replacing Kraigg Brathwaite. Chase promises a return to “Caribbean flair” with aggressive yet patient cricket.

Their last encounter ended 1-1, with West Indies pulling off a stunning eight-run win in Brisbane — their first Test win over Australia since 2003. Chase hopes the memory still haunts the Aussies, saying, “If they’re still thinking about that match, part of the job is already done.”
