Iran Parliament Approves Bill to Suspend Cooperation with IAEA

Iran’s parliament has approved a bill to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), state-affiliated Nournews reported on Wednesday. The move follows recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and U.S. bombing of underground sites. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Iran will accelerate its civilian nuclear programme and accused the IAEA of failing to condemn attacks on Iran, calling its credibility into question. The bill, which awaits final approval from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, would halt surveillance camera installations, inspections, and IAEA reporting. Tehran insists its nuclear programme is peaceful, blaming the IAEA’s recent resolution declaring Iran in breach of obligations for encouraging Israeli actions. Iran’s Foreign Minister hinted at possible shifts in Tehran’s stance on nuclear non-proliferation. The decision underscores rising regional tensions and could further complicate global diplomatic efforts on Iran’s nuclear issue.
