CM Pramod Sawant Flags Off ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ Awareness Drive at Kare College of Law, Margao

Margao : Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant attended and addressed the observance of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas at Kare College of Law, Margao, marking the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Emergency on June 25, 1975 – widely remembered as one of the darkest chapters in India’s democratic history.

In a solemn yet resolute address, the Chief Minister reflected on the events of 1975, stating, “On this day, the Constitution was silenced and democracy was strangled. Let us never forget the cost of that silence.”

He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from this historic reminder and uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. “Let Samvidhan Hatya Diwas not just be a day of remembrance, but a pledge – to defend the Constitution, to keep truth alive, and to inspire our youth to be the sentinels of democracy,” he urged.

On the occasion, Dr. Sawant also flagged off the Samvidhan Hatya Digital Exhibition Awareness Vehicle, an initiative aimed at spreading awareness among the masses about the Emergency, the suspension of civil liberties, and the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions.

The event witnessed participation from students, legal professionals, and members of civil society, all united in their commitment to constitutional values and democratic integrity.

The digital exhibition vehicle will travel across Goa, especially educational institutions, to educate young minds about the consequences of constitutional subversion and the resilience of India’s democracy.
