Retirement Scheme for Seafarers to Become Permanent: CM Dr. Pramod Sawant
Margao : On the occasion of International Day of the Seafarer 2025, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant made a key announcement for Goa’s maritime community during a special event at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, organized by the Goan Seamen Association of India.
CM Sawant declared that the state’s retirement pension scheme for seafarers will be made permanent if the BJP government returns to power in 2027. He also assured that a ₹1000 increase in the monthly pension is expected soon, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of seafarers.
“Seafarers are the backbone of Goa’s economy, contributing significantly to tourism, fisheries, and water transport,” the Chief Minister stated. “This pension scheme is not just a financial tool, but a token of our gratitude.”
The event’s theme, “My Harassment-Free Ship,” underlined the importance of dignity and safety at sea. Retired seafarers were honoured for their lifelong contributions, and CM Sawant reaffirmed that Goa is the only state in India offering a dedicated pension scheme for maritime workers. The government also plans to enhance welfare measures, boost skill development, and widen global job opportunities for Goan seafarers.
