Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary to Reopen Soon for Tourists

Animal test reports negative; Forest Department begins preparations

Panaji : The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa’s only zoo, is set to reopen for tourists after being closed for nearly two months. The sanctuary was shut down as a precautionary measure after the death of some animals due to influenza. However, with the laboratory reports now showing negative results, the state government has given the green light for reopening.

According to the Forest Department, the newly sent animal blood samples did not indicate any infectious diseases. Hence, after thorough verification and precautionary measures, the department has initiated the process of reopening the sanctuary. An official order is expected soon, and the sanctuary is likely to open for visitors in the coming days.

Relief for the Tourism Sector

Bondla Sanctuary is an integral part of Goa’s eco-tourism circuit and a favorite destination for nature lovers and tourists from across India and abroad. It offers wildlife sightings, rare plant species, and a serene natural environment. The closure of the sanctuary had disappointed many visitors, but the news of its reopening comes as a relief and is expected to rejuvenate eco-tourism, especially during the monsoon season.

Focus on Cleanliness and Safety

The Forest Department has started cleaning and sanitizing animal enclosures and surrounding areas, along with conducting health and safety checks for the animals. Additional initiatives like online ticketing, CCTV surveillance, and enhanced security measures are also being put in place to improve the overall visitor experience.

Appeal from the Forest Department

Tourists are urged to follow the rules while visiting the sanctuary, avoid disturbing the animals, and help maintain the cleanliness of the premises, the Forest Department stated.

“The test reports from the lab are negative. Further steps will now be taken as per standard operating procedures. Based on expert advice, the sanctuary will be reopened shortly.”
