Samvidhan Hatya Diwas Observed at Raj Bhavan, Goa

Panaji : To mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, the Governor of Goa, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, led the observance of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas at the Old Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan.

The Government of India has declared a year-long observance from June 25, 2025, to June 25, 2026, to remember the suppression of civil liberties, judicial freedom, and press rights during the Emergency—considered one of the darkest periods in Indian democracy.

Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about this critical chapter in history and reaffirm national commitment to constitutional values and democratic principles.

He stated that during the Emergency, the nation’s voice was silenced, courts were compromised, and dissent crushed. Remembering this is vital to prevent history from repeating itself.

The program included a pledge to protect democratic institutions and highlighted the importance of preserving individual rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.
