India Condemns Demolition of Durga Temple in Dhaka

New Delhi : India has strongly condemned the demolition of a Durga temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka, criticizing the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government for misrepresenting the incident as a case of illegal land use.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that extremists were demanding the demolition, yet the interim government failed to provide protection and instead facilitated the act under legal pretenses.

“The destruction led to damage to the deity before it was relocated. We are dismayed by the recurrence of such incidents in Bangladesh,” said Jaiswal.

He reaffirmed India’s concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, emphasizing that it is the interim government’s duty to protect Hindus, their properties, and religious institutions.
