Tata Steel Gets ₹1,000 Crore Tax Demand Notice Over Alleged GST Irregularities
Tata Steel has received a show-cause-cum-tax-demand notice from tax authorities alleging irregular availment of input tax credit amounting to ₹1,000 crore. The alleged violations pertain to the financial years 2018-19 to 2022-23.
According to the notice, the input tax credit was claimed in contravention of provisions under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act. The company has been directed to respond to the notice and show cause before the Additional or Joint Commissioner of Central GST and Excise, Jamshedpur, within 30 days from the receipt of the notice.
Tata Steel is expected to submit its clarification and supporting documentation as part of the compliance process.
