PM Modi Celebrates 10 Years of Digital India, Hails it as a People’s Movement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday celebrated the completion of 10 years of the Digital India initiative, calling it a transformative journey that empowered citizens and elevated India as a global digital leader.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Today is a historic day as we mark #10YearsOfDigitalIndia,” reflecting on how the initiative has revolutionized governance and everyday life across the nation. Launched in 2015, Digital India aimed to bridge the digital divide and make technology accessible to all.
Highlighting its achievements, Modi noted the rise in internet connections from 25 crore in 2014 to over 97 crore today. Over 42 lakh km of optical fibre now connects even the remotest parts of the country. UPI has become the world’s leading digital payment system, handling over 100 billion transactions annually.
Direct Benefit Transfers have saved ₹3.48 lakh crore by eliminating middlemen, while platforms like ONDC and GeM are boosting small businesses. Modi also highlighted India’s global role in Digital Public Infrastructure through Aadhaar, DigiLocker, FASTag, and CoWIN.
Calling Digital India a people’s movement, Modi urged innovators to build inclusive tech solutions and take India from “digital governance to global digital leadership.”
