Ganja War’ Heats Up in Pernem; Public Demands Probe into Sitting and Former MLA
Pernem : The ongoing exchange of serious allegations between the sitting and former MLA of the Pernem constituency has now been dubbed a “Ganja War,” causing a political stir across the region. Interestingly, more than who emerges victorious, the public seems to be treating this feud as a source of entertainment.
Both leaders have accused each other of involvement in illegal cannabis trade. As a result, citizens are now demanding a thorough and independent investigation into the matter, insisting that if both are making such serious claims, the truth must come out and strict action must follow against the guilty.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant had recently launched the “Drug-Free Goa” campaign, appealing to the youth to stay away from substance abuse. In this context, if current or former legislators themselves are allegedly linked to such illegal activities, it could jeopardize the credibility of the anti-drug mission, citizens have pointed out.
Hence, there is a strong public demand for the Chief Minister to take this issue seriously, appoint an independent inquiry commission, and take strict action against those found guilty. It remains to be seen whether the government acts on its own or is compelled to act under growing public pressure in the days to come.
