PM Modi Conferred Ghana’s Highest Civilian Honour; Announces Key Initiatives to Boost Ties
Accra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Ghana’s highest civilian award, ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, by President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, recognising his global leadership and statesmanship.
Accepting the honour, PM Modi said it was a moment of pride for all 1.4 billion Indians and dedicated the award to India’s youth, cultural diversity, and the deep-rooted India-Ghana friendship. He affirmed that the recognition brings new responsibility to advance bilateral ties.
During his historic visit the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years Modi announced the setting up of a Skill Development Centre and expanded cooperation in agriculture, education, defence, healthcare, and digital payments. India will support Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ programme and promote affordable healthcare through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
India also plans to double trade with Ghana in five years and share the Bharat UPI platform to strengthen financial connectivity.
President Mahama hailed the visit as a reaffirmation of the historical bonds between the two nations, rooted in shared democratic values and mutual respect.
