Jaishankar Asserts India-US Ties Stand on Their Own Merit

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during his Washington visit, asserted that India’s relationship with the United States is independent and not influenced by third countries like Pakistan. Addressing a press conference, he urged observers to move beyond the notion of defining bilateral ties in terms of other nations, emphasising that India-US relations are driven by mutual benefits such as trade, investment, technology, energy, and mobility.

Jaishankar highlighted India’s rising global stature, noting it as one of the top five economies and the most populous country. On former US President Donald Trump’s claim of brokering a ceasefire post-Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar clarified that the ceasefire was negotiated between the military leaderships of India and Pakistan.

In Washington for the Quad Ministerial Meeting, Jaishankar also held separate meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, reviewing progress and setting future goals in key sectors including defence and energy.
